Hymnals · Terms of Use

Simple terms for a simple app.

Last updated 11 July 2026

In plain words

  • Hymnals is free, works offline, and is made for worship and study.
  • To the best of our knowledge, the hymns included are in the public domain.
  • Your recordings are yours; they’re private until you choose to share them.
  • Share respectfully — this is a worship space.
  • You can delete anything you shared, or your whole account, at any time.

1. About the app

Hymnals is a free app by Algorithm Zero that puts a Tshivenḓa hymn book on your phone. The hymns work offline. An optional community layer lets you record your singing and, if you choose, share it so others can listen. By using the app you agree to these terms.

2. The hymns & content

To the best of our knowledge, the hymns included in this app are in the public domain. They are long‑standing works of the church, and we have compiled, digitised and — where shown — translated them so they can be sung and studied. The diacritics, translations and any corrections are provided in good faith and may contain errors.

If you believe a hymn is not in the public domain, is wrongly attributed, or should not be included, please tell us at info@algorithmzero.co.za and we will review it and, where appropriate, correct or remove it promptly.

3. Your recordings

4. Community conduct

The community layer is a worship space. Please treat it as one.

Copyright claims. An in‑app copyright report flags a recording for human review — a single report is enough for us to listen and check. Formal claims should be sent to info@algorithmzero.co.za and include: (1) the copyrighted work (title, composer/publisher, and a link to an official release where possible); (2) the specific recording in this app said to infringe; (3) your name and contact details, and whether you are the rights holder or their authorised agent; (4) a good‑faith statement that the use is unauthorised; and (5) a declaration that the information is accurate, signed with your name. We aim to resolve every formal claim within 30 days: the uploader is notified, and the recording is removed if the claim stands (or sooner where the infringement is clear). Abusive or knowingly false reports and claims may be disregarded and can lead to loss of sharing privileges — as may repeatedly sharing infringing content.

5. Accounts & signing in

You can read hymns and record privately without any account. Signing in with Google is optional and needed only to share. You’re responsible for keeping your sign‑in secure. See our Privacy Policy for what information sharing involves.

6. Deleting content & your account

7. Provided “as is”

The app is offered free and “as is”, without warranties of any kind. We do our best to keep it working and accurate, but we can’t guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error‑free. To the extent permitted by law, Algorithm Zero is not liable for any loss arising from use of the app or the community layer.

8. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. We’ll update this page and its “last updated” date, and continued use of the app means you accept the current terms.
